People Stroke the Curve of the Earth Here
The Reason for Rounded Circles Lives Here

The exhibition deals with remembering the shapes of nature, as the bodies that might feel spectral but we can still call ours. “People stroke the curve of the earth here, the reason for rounded circles lives here” is borrowed from the poem “the healers” by South African poet Khulile Nxumalo. This fragment refers to the memory of the earth, the ancestral knowledge that we still carry with us, the hums of nature that have been repressed. An inscription remains legible. To love the earth, to continue its shape and allow its fertility.

We will open the VBKÖ space to the nature that surrounds it by bringing herbs, fragments of stones, fallen branches; an open-ended gathering and installation which will grow with the participation of the visitors. We will offer activities to listen, observe, draw, think, read and meditate together.

the earth remembers
how does caring manifest itself
and how does abuse

How do we heal the land that we humans have made sick?

Meeting point: Tram 41, Pötzleinsdorf (end station)

Driven by curiosity, Ivie Isibor has been researching herbs and practicing gardening in order to learn from the wisdom of plants. Through carefully listening to them and the soft communication within the carework of gardening she created a new understanding of these teachers. She wants to share and open a space to come together and exchange our plant knowledge.

  • Screening with Colectivo Los Ingrávidos, presented by Frida RoblesSeptember 28th, 2024

    18:00 – 20:00
VBKÖ, Maysedergasse 2/28, 4. floor (elevator available), 1010 Vienna

The recent work of Colectivo Los Ingrávidos evokes a ritual, animistic notion of the cinematographic medium in which a choreography of natural elements and forces interact with the materiality of film and the screen. “The Nest of the Sun” forms part of a trilogy titled “Tonalli” that finds inspiration in the Mexica cosmovision to open up a field dense with rhythms, textures and colors emanating from the sun, the moon and fire.
