Narrating Archives
The exhibition presents projects by students of the Expanded Museum Studies program, which explore four thematic strands from the archive of the Association of Women Artists in Austria (VBKÖ). This historical archive serves not only as a presentation space in which relevant documents and materials are made accessible, but also as a research object and a site of knowledge production itself. Research movements and searche for traces in the archive are revealed, occasionally forming speculative connections with gaps and absences. By “staging” and “performing” the research results, questions of memory and historiography, as well as the mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion at work in the archive, are critically examined, and new interpretations are proposed.
