Screening event at VBKÖ presenting 6 video works from Total Eclipse Plumage, a program organized by platform Monzoom.xyz with artists Aqid Aiman, Aran Atsuo, Elsa Wong, farizi, Kai, Kenneth Constance Loe, nor, Phoo Myet Che, Ryan Benjamin Lee, Stephanie Jane Burt, Weixin Quek Chong, Xafiér Yap, and a short film by Yuwol June C.

​​Power. A power to dress-up, make-up, speak-up and act-out. Let us question ourselves where the power comes from. Why do we find ourselves in a constant state of desire, an eager position to become something else than what we are? After all, aren’t we all living in an illusion of autonomy? The entanglement of the body and the power that penetrates the flesh elaborately interweaves our limbs in a certain mode of shape, speed and color, as neatly as the logic of a traffic light.

By examining the dynamics of such (neo-)colonial power residues on our bodies, the collective attempt under this frame is to activate questions in a plain sight to summon all the forces that haunt us in our mirror. Playing with the tensions to either fight against or be possessed, the exhibition aims to work as a bait to lure in the desires that shape us.

Next to the exhibition, a workshop will take place on the 26th of June under the title of “The International Film Festival Landscape – Empowering BIPOC Filmmakers” led by Gugi Gumilang, the executive director of In-Docs, a non-profit behind Docs by the Sea and Good Pitch Indonesia and VitaminDocs, and an executive board member of Documentary Association of Europe.

An artist talk will happen on the 2nd of July between three positions, Kenneth Constance Loe & Weixin Quek Chong, the organizers of the platform Monzoon.xyz and Yuwol June C., further discussing the project on display.
