100 Jahre VBKÖ: 1. April 2010

The Austrian Association of Women Artists will turn 100 years old on April 1st, 2010. Its constitution took place as the first women’s artist association of Austria within the struggle for equality, rights and participation of women artists in the art world during the course of the developments of the 1st women’s movement. Its revolutionary goals demanded the advancement, regard, enhancement and establishment of artistic interests for women artists.

The new board of the VBKÖ, President: Rudolfine Lackner, Secretary: Lina Dokuzovic, Elke Auer, Iris Borovcnik, Veronika Dirnhofer, Hilde Fuchs, Nina Höchtl, Ivana Marjanovic, Esther Straganz and Angela Wiedermann, grace and welcome the occasion for this special event for an intimate Cunttail and a gigantic birthday cake on Thursday from 7pm at the VBKÖ.

Louise Bourgeois, Olga Brand-Krieghammer, Judith Butler, Li Yuan-Chen, Don Carlos Balmori, Olympe de Gouges, Lady Gaga, Frieda Gold, Emma Goldman, Marianne Hainisch, Donna Haraway, Zarana Papic, Beatriz Preciado, Queen of Eggs and the Fist have declared their accompaniment throughout the golden night as the mistresses of ceremonies.

Dress up in festive golden clothes and drink with us to another hundred years of the VBKÖ.

On the occasion of the centennial anniversary, a program for the year will be presented, which is composed of theoretical activities and a growing annual exhibition. Currently, works by Amanda Amaan/Rudolfine Lackner, Linda Bilda, Lina Dokuzovic and Drogerie are on display. All of the activities refer to the historical origin of the VBKÖ in the androcentric totalities of institutions and to current links of resistance predominantly imprinted by feminism.
